Design and supervision services
Total built area: 2100 m2, landscaping: 1500 m2
In 2006 the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to build the new Chancery and the Ambassador’s Residence buildings on a plot of 4600 m2, located in Tehran, Farmanieh district. The new Embassy was supposed to assess in particular its capacity to withstand an earthquake. The Dutch design office CEPEZED made the concept design, after which the Mammut company, under the direction of the my office, further developed the construction drawings in accordance with local laws and the prevailing architectural norms. Afshar Naderi team collaborated in both concept and detailed design phases and during the construction supervised the works.
The requirement expressed by the Client was to build a chancery that can resist a strong earthquake without compromising its functionality. All the buildings’ components such as glass, ceiling, interior walls and facade have been designed to be resistant to such earthquakes. Indeed, factors that are not immediately obvious have also been taken into account. Underground pipes and cables have been designed in such a way that they will withstand movements of the earth, and most of the furniture is firmly attached to the construction. The new building has been realized in eighteen months.
The project consisted of:
Full corten steel perimeter wall and gate high 3.5 m.
Landscaping
Chancery building in 2 floors and around 1100 m2 floor area (pre-fab façade partitions, steel structure and concrete slabs).
Residence of the Ambassador in 2 floors and around 600 m2 floor area. (pre-fab façade partitions, steel structure and concrete slabs).
Service buildings including: Technical room, Aqua Tank, Guard House, and Parking (400 m2 – mainly concrete walls and structures).
This project required specific security and health considerations in different classes such as Bullet Proof, Burglar Resistant, Burglar Proof, Extra Burglar Proof, as well as Fire and Smoke Resistant materials.
